Three of Atlantic Canada’s rising-star songwriters will be presented in concert on Thursday, March 23, when Music Nova Scotia’s Bringin’ It Home tour visits the Sherbrooke Courthouse at Historic Sherbrooke Village. Pictou County’s Dave Gunning is among the performers. Gunning, who has performed at Sherbrooke Village and at the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, is returning to Sherbrooke hot on the heels of representing Nova Scotia at the prestigious South by Southwest Music and Media Conference in Austin, Texas. He was nominated in the categories of male artist and album of the year at the recent East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs). Steven Bowers, another favoured performer, has been described as “an exciting young singer-songwriter with the soul of an old poet” and has co-written with Dave Gunning, Rylee Madison and Ron Hynes. He appeared at last year’s Stan Rogers Folk Festival and has showcased at Canadian Music Week, and at the ECMAs. His acoustic-based original songs range from folk to funk, from country to roots-rock. The talent lineup also includes Meaghan Smith, who has been nominated for two Music Nova Scotia Awards and has won the CBC’s Galaxy Rising Star Award for best new artist. This is the third successive year that Sherbrooke Village has been selected to host a portion of the Bringin’ It Home Tour. “It’s a great package and I know our audiences will enjoy hearing three such talented songwriters,” said George Brothers, who produces the regular Courthouse Concert series at Sherbrooke Village. “Dave Gunning is a singer-songwriter on the verge of international stardom, and Steven Bowers and Meaghan Smith are phenomenal talents as well. The combination of these superb performers and a great venue such as the Courthouse, make this a don’t-miss show.” The line-up for the Sherbrooke Courthouse Summer Concert series will be announced during the Bringin’ It Home Concert. Tickets for the show, which begins at 7:30 p.m, are $10. For further information call 1-888-743-7845 or 522-2400.
